LignUp and Intel Provide First WiMax Network in Vietnam

Wimax technology officially tested in Vietnam
VietNamNet Bridge – Representatives of Intel, the Vietnam Data Communications Company (VDC), and authorities of the northern province of Lao Cai officially kicked off the pilot Wimax network project in Lao Cai today.

This pilot project to test the first Wimax telecom network in Vietnam is the fruit of an agreement signed among Intel, VDC and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

In the agreement, the three sides committed to implement the new wireless broadband technology to develop economies in rural and remote areas of Vietnam.

After the signing, a base transmission station and 20 customer premises equipment (CPE) were installed in Lao Cai province to serve the implementation of high speed Internet accession applications and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) services.

The VoIP service will be provided experimentally to 19 customers, which are schools, health stations, post offices, Internet cafes, families, hotels and some public sites in Lao Cai through the cooperation between USAID and an American software company, LignUp.
