Careline Selects LignUp and Amazon Web Services for Contact Management

Leading UK Call Center Careline to Migrate 1,000 Agents to LignUp VoIP Solution Leveraging Amazon Web Services

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- LignUp Corporation, a provider of converged communications solutions, today announced that it has selected the Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) from Amazon Web Services to power its VoIP-enabled LignUp Web Services, applications, and mashups. The LignUp solution leveraging Amazon Web services provides developers with a Web services-based platform for quickly creating voice-over-IP (VoIP) based Web services, applications, mashups, and portals. LignUp will demonstrate innovative voice-enabled social networking and business Web services using their combined technologies at the Emerging Telephony Conference, which is being held February 27-March 1, at the San Francisco Airport Marriott in Burlingame, Calif.

Careline Selects Integrated LignUp-Amazon Solution The first customer of the integrated LignUp solution leveraging Amazon Web Services is Careline, a leading UK-based provider of call center services to blue-chip enterprise customers. Careline has selected the LignUp Communications Application Server and Amazon S3 as the basis for its VoIP-enabled Bespoke Call Centre system, combining enterprise scalability, reliability and security with the cost efficiencies of VoIP and hosted storage. Once implemented, Careline plans to migrate its 1,000 UK-based call center agents to the new system to provide its enterprise customers with the benefits of local call center support while matching the cost efficiencies typically associated with offshore services.

“In this competitive industry, many large enterprises have become used to the cost models seen with using call centers overseas. We wanted to be able to offer a high quality service from the UK but be price competitive to these models,” said David Jackson, IT director of Careline. “The LignUp solution leveraging Amazon Web Services is enabling us to do just this through proven capabilities for creating and storing VoIP-based applications and by providing a flexible and scalable platform for us to adapt and grow our business.”

Hosted LignUp Solution Leveraging Amazon Web Services Speeds Delivery The LignUp solution leveraging Amazon Web Services allows developers to quickly and cost-effectively create voice-enabled applications and Web services. The LignUp Communications Applications Server provides all the functionality needed to build presence-aware, voice-enabled applications and Web services for next-generation service providers, enterprises, ISVs, and online portals – including built-in call control, media control, presence, PBX, voicemail, and unified messaging capabilities and LignUp Web services, APIs, and VoIPlets. Voice WAV files created by LignUp-based applications are stored and converted to MPEG-3 files on Amazon S3. By hosting LignUp’s developer environment in Amazon EC2, LignUp is able to scale its development platform quickly while lowering the developers’ costs to build applications. Both Amazon S3 and Amazon EC2 provide the scalability, security and reliability to support the most demanding business applications or consumer websites.

“Amazon Web Services is pleased to help LignUp innovate on behalf of their developer customers who want to build the next generation of VoIP applications,” said Steve Rabuchin, Director of Developer Relations for Amazon Web Services.

“Enterprises serving businesses and consumers alike are beginning to recognize that the next ‘killer apps’ will use voice to create a richer experience, facilitate collaboration, and foster customer loyalty,” said Kevin Nethercott, president and COO for LignUp Corporation. “With its robust, scalable S3 storage and EC2 compute services, Amazon gives us unlimited ability to scale and support developers as voice becomes an integral part of their applications and Web services.”
